CBS to Shoot Super Bowl in 4K & 8K
After this weekend, the NFL reached its final four. And with the Super Bowl coming up quickly, it’s no surprise to start to see a little showing off about how the sports pinnacle event will be broadcast to the world.
CBS possesses the television rights, and plans to shower viewers with splendid 4k and 8k awesomeness for Super Bowl LII, providing close ups and alternative viewing angles for fans. This Super Bowl marks the second in row leveraging 4K cameras for the broadcast.
Specifically speaking, CBS will deploy more than 100 cameras, with 16 possessing 4K capabilities, in addition to nine Sony 4800 camera systems. From super-slow motion, to HD cut-outs with zoomed in perspectives. As far as firsts go, this will be the first live network broadcast to feature several 8K cameras – shooting the game from the endzone.
In addition to employing 8K, CBS will be putting four cameras to the task of supporting live augmented reality graphics, as well as 10 more cameras providing trackable first-down-line technology. Some 14 cameras will incorporate virtual graphic elements.
The announced combination of 115 cameras will provide a Super Bowl viewing experience like no other. It may even be enough to keep the non-sports fan hooked into the all the mega event provides.
As a Jets fan, my season ended a long time ago, but for network operators it appears the biggest test of the season lies ahead.
